Dr. Beth N. Teigen, Ph.D.

Dr. Beth N. Teigen is the Superintendent of Powhatan County Public Schools, serving more than 4,251 students and 630 employees. Powhatan County Public Schools is a high-performing, rural school district, where approximately one-fifth of the students participate in the federal free lunch program. Dr. Teigen is a long-time Powhatan resident. She and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters.

Prior to her appointment in Powhatan, she served as the Deputy Superintendent/Chief of Staff for Henrico County Public Schools after being the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. Prior to her transition to Henrico County Public Schools, Dr. Teigen served as the Executive Director for School Administration for Chesterfield County Public Schools. During her tenure in Chesterfield, she served as a mathematics and engineering teacher, a specialty center coordinator, an assistant principal and a principal. As a school administrator, she coordinated the design efforts for a Health Sciences Specialty Center, which later became part of the Governor’s Academy of Health Sciences, and she transitioned a pre-engineering specialty center into a Governor’s Academy for Engineering Studies open to students across the division. While in her various central office positions, Dr. Teigen supervised the following: elementary, middle and high school education; career and technical education and workforce readiness; K-12 and gifted instruction; policy and constituency services; pupil placement and student discipline; research, assessment; research, assessment and evaluation; safety and security; student support services (pre-Kindergarten, Title I, ESL, school counseling, psychology, and social work); and school health. She serves as an adjunct professor to prepare pre-service teachers at the University of Richmond and educational leaders at James Madison University. Dr. Teigen has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics from James Madison University, and she has a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
