The Virginia Department of Education is proud to announce the Virginia 250 Passport in partnership with the VA250 Commission and supported by the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC). In 2026, the United States marks its 250th anniversary. This historic milestone – extraordinary in our lifetimes – provides the ideal moment to come together, better understand our shared past, and renew our commitment to the pursuit of A More Perfect Union.
In partnership, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC), Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission created the Virginia 250 Passport.
This commemorative passport is a history travel guide, discount book, and 250th keepsake! From November 11, 2025, through December 31, 2026, participants can collect unique stamps at 70 history sites and museums across the Commonwealth, receive special pricing on admission, and enter to win prizes. Passports are available at no cost at the VMHC and select locations across the state.

Fridays at Powhatan High School come with a little extra joy thanks to the Coffee Train! 🚂☕ Hot chocolate, coffee, and sweet treats delivered right to teachers and staff in their classrooms or work areas? That’s the kind of Friday pick-me-up we love. Powhatan High School’s JROTC cadets recently visited Flat Rock Elementary to share important Holiday Fire Safety tips with some of our younger students. Each year, the cadets create a different service-learning project. This year, 14 cadets worked in teams to design their own fire safety presentations and deliver them during Resource classes. We love seeing our older students lead, teach, and give back in meaningful ways. 🧡🖤 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

Get ready for a night of mystery, music, and all-around fun! 🎤🎭 Join us Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Powhatan High School auditorium for Masked Singer: Teacher Edition – where our own staff take the stage in full disguise. Come cheer on your favorites and try to guess who’s behind the mask. You might be surprised! Tickets are $5 at the door. Jackson and Alex Fife, two creative students at Powhatan Middle School, recently shared their love of 3D- building with a special gift for their peers. Through their family nonprofit, Fife’s Fun with Filament, they used 3-D printers to create 125 fidgets – 25 for each PCPS school – to help students manage stress and stay focused. The donation was presented during ACCT with Principal Colin Innes, Superintendent Beth Teigen, and School Board Chair Susan Smith in attendance. 🧡 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

At Tuesday night's meeting, the School Board recognized the winners of the seven Classroom Innovation Grants awarded this year by the Powhatan Education Foundation (PEF). These grants, which total $16,168.99 this year, support creative projects that enrich instruction, spark student curiosity, and strengthen connections with our community.

Grant Recipients:

* Loren Jacobs, Powhatan High School, $1,888.99 for “Touch & Learn: An Interactive Display to Ignite Curiosity in High School.”

* Kelly Terry, Flat Rock Elementary, $2,775 for “Take a Future View Into Immersive Digital Learning with ViewSonic Interactive ViewBoards.”

* Libbey Kitten, Instructional Specialist – Science, $2,000 for “From Powhatan to the Stars: Inspiring Student Curiosity with a Traveling Planetarium.”

* Barbara Adcock, Pocahontas Elementary, $1,960 for “Energy Transfer: Insulators and Conductors of Thermal Energy.”

* Rebekah Crump, Pocahontas Elementary, $2,545 for “Powering the Future.”

* Jana Ford, Pocahontas Elementary, $2,000 for “Second Grade Outdoor Learning Space.”

* Athea Hudson and Tracy Ingle, Powhatan High School, $3,000 for “Renaissance Festival.”

Ahead of Veterans Day, Powhatan Middle School students put their creativity and gratitude to work in ACCT, making more than 350 cards to thank our veterans for their service. Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. Antone delivered the cards to Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where they were shared with veterans in a special Veterans Day celebration on November 7. ❤️🤍💙🧡🖤 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

🎭 Come out Friday night and support Powhatan High School Theatre! The PHS Theatre Department will present two very different adaptations of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s famous short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” on Friday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m. in the PHS auditorium. It’s a great chance to enjoy an evening of powerful performances and cheer on our talented student actors before they head to the VHSL One-Act Competition at Huguenot High School! There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to spice up parent-teacher conference day! Powhatan High School’s Sunshine Committee held its annual Sunshine Chili Cookoff on Tuesday, and the results are in:
🥇 Mr. Fields took home the title of Chili Cookoff Champion!
🥈 Mr. Robertson’s Culinary II H students came in second.
🥉 Ms. Tolley rounded out the top three.

🗳️ Leading up to Election Day, kindergarten students in Mrs. Senger’s class at Pocahontas Elementary were introduced to important new vocabulary words about voting, laws, and government through their All About Voting workbooks. The age-appropriate social studies lesson helped the students approach really big concepts through examples they could understand. When the lesson was over, they made the books even more special by coloring them. 🧡 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

🗳️ It’s never too early to learn about the importance of voting! Kindergarten students at Pocahontas Elementary participated in their own class election, casting ballots to decide between two beloved candidates – Duck and Clifford. Powhatan High School students in Mrs. Henderson’s Practical Law class recently applied new vocabulary related to civil law through classroom discussions and group activities they completed while enjoying beautiful weather in the courtyard. Occasionally joining the class this semester is VCU practicum student Will Poulton, who is gaining firsthand experience observing and supporting lessons that take him beyond his own textbooks. 🧡 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

📜Students in Mrs. Smith and Mr. Garland’s U.S. and Virginia Government classes at Powhatan High School recently explored the Bill of Rights in a creative way. They were tasked with finding songs that reflect the freedoms outlined in each amendment. 🎵 🧡 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

This week, Powhatan High School students have been participating in Red Ribbon Week, raising awareness about making healthy choices and living drug-free. Each day is featuring special announcements focused on the importance of staying substance-free, and today the HOSA Club hosted a table during all lunches where students could sign a pledge to be drug free – with some fun giveaways to celebrate! 🧡 #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

Every great plan includes reflection. PCPS is reviewing the division's strategic plan, Charting the Path to 2030, to measure our progress and ensure we remain on the right path. We are looking for people to join the Strategic Plan Steering Committee to help guide this next phase of our work. Applications are due November 10.
