Solving Problems Together: Who to Contact?
Updated PCPS Cell Phone Policy
Reminder: Dismissal and Transportation Changes: Notes for dismissal and transportation changes must be submitted to our main office no later than 12pm.
Dropping off items: Due to volume, students will pick up items that are dropped off (i.e. lunch, water bottle, etc.) at class change or during lunch. This reduces both the number of times front office staff must interrupt teachers and the amount of time students are out of class. In the event of an emergency please contact the main office directly.
School Messenger: If you do not currently receive text messages from the school messenger program and you would like to OPT IN to receive TEXT messages. Text the words OPT IN to 67587.
Lost and Found: Due to limited storage, we will be donating Lost and Found items after 12/17. Please encourage your student to check for lost items prior to that date. Thank you!
Important Calendar Update: At the December 11, 2025 School Board meeting, the Board approved changing April 6, 2026, from a designated snow make-up day to an instructional day for students and staff. This change was made in response to the four instructional days already missed due to snow.

The PHS Experience!

Come join us Thursday, January 15th 6:00-8:00 pm for The PHS Experience: A Showcase of classes, sports and activities.
This evening will show you what PHS has to offer! The program starts at 6:00 in the auditorium with a presentation on graduation requirements and how to help students be successful in high school.
Students and families will then have the opportunity to check out the many offerings we have at PHS including the following:
AP / Dual Enrollment classes, Athletic Eligibility, Clubs, Counseling Services, Curriculum Displays, Elective offerings, Financial Aid, JROTC Demos, Military & College Recruiters, Sports, Testing: (SAT, ACT, PSAT, ASVAB)...
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the many opportunities for students to get involved and to help them choose classes that will best prepare them for their future. This is open to all current students, rising 9th graders and their families. Come join us, you don't want to miss out!!!

Climate Survey

Our school will participate in the Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions in partnership with state agencies. Students in grades 9–12 will complete the anonymous, voluntary survey between January 12–23, 2026.
The survey gathers feedback on school climate, safety, engagement, and support, and includes some sensitive topics such as bullying and mental health. Families may opt out by January 5, 2026.
Results will be shared later in the school year and used to help improve school learning environments.

Powhatan Strong: Family Connection Series

Powhatan County Public Schools Student Services Department welcomes you to our monthly Virtual Coffee Chats titled Powhatan Strong Family Connection Series. Each month, Student Services will present a different topic with strategies to support your students from home, policies and procedures at the division and school levels, and opportunities to ask questions of our Student Services Department members and guest panelists. AP Exam Ordering Information

The AP Exam payment window is now open for students enrolled in AP courses who wish to take their exam in May.
Cost per exam: $99
Payment options:
- Online through SchoolCash
- In-person under the stairs during SPEAR TIME (cash, check or card)
  (Make sure checks are made out to Powhatan High School)
Deadline: Friday, November 3
Please note: After November 3, a $40 late fee per exam will be added to the cost of each exam ordered.
We encourage all families to complete payment early to avoid late fees.

Career and College Fair

Juniors and Seniors will be invited to visit over 40 Career and College booths that will be set up on Main Street. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to network with local businesses. Parents, if you own a business or know someone that is looking for high school students to hire then please contact Caryn.Rehme@powhatan.k12.va.us to register for this event.

VSBA Scholarship Opportunity

The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) is thrilled to announce a brand-new scholarship opportunity designed to support high school seniors across the Commonwealth! The VSBA Board of Directors Regional Scholarship recognizes students who excel in academics, leadership, and community service, providing them with financial support to pursue their post-secondary education.
- Key Details:
  - Who Can Apply? High school seniors graduating in Spring 2026 who attend a public high school in a division that is a member of the VSBA and located within one of the nine VSBA regions.
  - Scholarship Award: $5,000 per regional winner!
  - Scholarship Theme: Champion for Impact – Share how you plan to use your education to make a difference!
  - Application Deadline: January 30, 2026, by 4:00 p.m.
- Selected recipients will be honored during the 2026 VSBA Regional Spring Networking Forums. Attendance to the student’s respective regional spring networking forum is required to receive their award. Regional winners will be selected and notified in February 2026. Lunch Buddy Program

The Lunch Buddies Mentoring Program has been in place in Powhatan County Public Schools for over 10 years. The goal of the program is to help foster strong relationships among our students and the positive adult role models in the community. Whether at any of our 3 elementary schools or our middle school, you would meet with a student once a week and ultimately act as another advocate for them. It can be anything from academic support to conversation, playing games, making crafts, and so much more. The program is planned to begin the first week of October and will last until mid-May, when SOL testing begins in our upper grade levels.
If you are interested in participating as a mentor for the Lunch Buddies Program, we would be happy to have you! Please reach out to lunchbuddies@powhatan.k12.va.us for any questions. PHS Theatre

Theatre parents interested in volunteering to help the program are invited to fill out the attached interest form. We are looking for people to help with building sets and costumes, ticket-taking and ushering, organizing meals and helping with field trips, or any other area of interest! Thank you.
