We will WELCOME families starting on THURSDAY, Sept. 24th to start eating lunch with their kiddo(s). Please remember to bring your ID when you sign in the front office. You can ONLY pull YOUR child over to the parent tables.

Important Reminders

Please talk with your kiddo(s) about keeping his/her hands to themselves. We know children get upset, but we have to work together to ensure that "hitting, slapping, pushing, kicking, running around the building, etc" is NOT the first "go to" in a situation. Behaviors like this will NOT be tolerated and will lead to Out of School Suspensions if they continue.

Please make sure your student is getting the proper amount of rest as we will be CHALLENGING ALL of our students in order to 📈LEVEL UP🥇this year!

We need your kiddo at school every day so they can learn with us. Research shows that if your child misses 2 days a month then he or she is trending to be Chronically Absent (missing 10% or more time from school) as they move through their school career. To put this into perspective at this point of the year...if your child has missed TWO or MORE days already from school this year then your child is Chronically Absent. Now, as we continue to be in school longer and your child doesn't miss any more days then the percentage will drop drastically.

PowES Counseling - Grief Support Group

The counseling department will be offering small groups to help students deal with grief. This group is for children who have suffered the loss of a close loved one and still having trouble handling it or you feel has not adequately dealt with the grief.
If you are interested in your child participating in this small group during school hours, please contact one of the school counselors: peggy.jenkins@powhatan.k12.va.us or maddison.pfautz@powhatan.k12.va.us.

Attendance, Family Trips & Vacations

When your child is absent please remember to call our attendance secretary, Mrs. Yarbrough or email us at powesattendance@powhatan.k12.va.us.
Remember family trips/vacations MUST be approved by the principal ahead of time. Please email Dr. Jason Gill at jason.gill@powhatan.k12.va.us in order to get PRIOR approval. Last minute communications CAN result in an unexcused absence. Even though a vacation/trip may be approved, does not mean the absence goes away.
An absence from school is an absence from school. We need all students in school each and every day, but we know things come up. Please keep in mind if your child misses 10% of the school year at any time you will receive a call, a letter or both. We just want to make sure your child(ren) is not missing valuable instructional time.

Transportation Information

Transportation schedules are now available through the My Ride K-12 app. Families are encouraged to review their child's bus information before the first day of school, including bus assignment, bus stop location, and scheduled pickup and drop-off times.
As we begin the school year, please keep in mind that bus schedules may experience minor adjustments as routes are finalized and drivers become familiar with their students and stops. We appreciate your patience during the first several days of school.
Please have your student at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled bus stop time. Being ready and waiting before the scheduled arrival time helps our buses remain on schedule and ensures students do not miss their bus.
