Just because adults don’t always understand the social media trends students embrace doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with them. In honor of the 67th day of school on Monday – the 67th day of learning – Mrs. Hintz’s kindergarteners at Powhatan Elementary celebrated with fun activities, including one that called on their imaginations. Students were asked to transform a written 6 and 7 into something entirely new, then practiced writing by completing the sentence, “It’s not 6 7, it’s…” to match their reimagined drawings. #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

The second-grade team at Powhatan Elementary wrapped up a two-week study of the Powhatan, Lakota, and Pueblo tribes with a hands-on “Native American Museum” for families and friends right before Thanksgiving break. Students showed off what they learned by creating models like teepees and canoes, building artifacts, and sharing artwork they made with Ms. Webster in art class. Powhatan County Public Schools is committed to supporting the well-being of our students, families, and community. As part of our Powhatan Strong: Family Connection Series, we are partnering with Goochland Powhatan Community Services to offer a free virtual course on Suicide Prevention: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR).
This training will provide participants with the skills to recognize the common causes and warning signs of suicidal behavior and how to get help for someone in crisis. Attendees will learn how to appropriately Question, Persuade, and Refer someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts.
The course will be held virtually on December 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Space is limited to 30 participants.

After fourth graders at Powhatan Elementary studied elements of drama in reading, what better way to review for their Jamestown test than a reader’s theater skit? Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Easter collaborated with the art teacher (Mrs. Webster) to create costumes, and the students loved bringing the Jamestown settlement of 1607 to life with this cross curricular activity! #WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

In 2026, the United States marks its 250th anniversary. This historic milestone – extraordinary in our lifetimes – provides the ideal moment to come together, better understand our shared past, and renew our commitment to the pursuit of A More Perfect Union.
In partnership, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC), Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission created the Virginia 250 Passport.
This commemorative passport is a history travel guide, discount book, and 250th keepsake! From November 11, 2025, through December 31, 2026, participants can collect unique stamps at 70 history sites and museums across the Commonwealth, receive special pricing on admission, and enter to win prizes. Passports are available at no cost at the VMHC and select locations across the state.

Jackson and Alex Fife, two creative students at Powhatan Middle School, recently shared their love of 3D- building with a special gift for their peers. Through their family nonprofit, Fife’s Fun with Filament, they used 3-D printers to create 125 fidgets – 25 for each PCPS school – to help students manage stress and stay focused. At Tuesday night's meeting, the School Board recognized the winners of the seven Classroom Innovation Grants awarded this year by the Powhatan Education Foundation (PEF). These grants, which total $16,168.99 this year, support creative projects that enrich instruction, spark student curiosity, and strengthen connections with our community.

Ahead of Veterans Day, Powhatan Middle School students put their creativity and gratitude to work in ACCT, making more than 350 cards to thank our veterans for their service. 🗳️ Leading up to Election Day, kindergarten students in Mrs. Senger’s class at Pocahontas Elementary were introduced to important new vocabulary words about voting, laws, and government through their All About Voting workbooks. The age-appropriate social studies lesson helped the students approach really big concepts through examples they could understand.
