Last week, Powhatan County Public Schools embraced the 100th Day of School in a very festive way. We would love to see some of your 100th Day photos! In addition to wearing homemade 100th Day T-shirts and headgear, the class had 100th Day stations such as stacking 100 cups, writing about what they would do if they had $100, drawing a 10-legged monster, cutting and gluing counting-by-ten puzzles, making a pattern out of 100 blocks, and learning about pennies. #wearepcps #teampowhatan
@backpacksofloveinc is holding a Food Drive through Feb. 23, 2024. Backpacks of Love, Inc. is a local charity that was formed to provide food for school children over the weekend. Children who need such food receive a small bag of food and snacks on the last day of the school week. Our partners at Backpacks of Love are asking for our help! They need food donations. In Mrs. Henley's Computer Resource class at Powhatan Elementary, Mrs. Cable's kindergartners rotated between stations for some interactive learning. The stations saw the students working with a Robot Finch, with Pop Its learning sight words, with a Robot Mouse to create a maze they had to program the mouse to go through, and using Code Buddies. #wearepcps #teampowhatan
Mrs. Lewis' fifth-grade class at Powhatan Elementary used the @birdbraintech Robot Finch to review math skills. They used block coding to code the finch to match the fraction with the correct decimal form. #wearepcps #teampowhatan
Ms. Daniel’s first graders at Powhatan Elementary worked on a booklet about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that included reading and answering questions about his life. The class also did small group work learning about determining a word by using clues to infer the answer. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

When Mrs. Rose’s third graders at Powhatan Elementary came to art class with Mrs. Webster, she had them stretch their imaginations with a clay play day. This first lesson in the class’s clay unit lets the students get reacquainted with clay and experience molding it without worrying about creating a finished product that will be fired in a kiln. Powhatan County Public Schools highly recommends that families with smartphones download the free PCPS app and enable notifications. When alerts such as notice of school delays or closings are sent out, the notifications through the app appear to be the one of the fast means of receiving the information. Powhatan County Public Schools is now accepting ECSE Preschool applications. Applications are available through Feb. 9, 2024. In-person screenings/play dates will be scheduled from Feb. 12-23. All children must participate in the screening and play date in order to be considered for this program. The Powhatan County School Board will hold its workshop at 4 p.m. today. The board will elect its leadership for 2024, but the rest of the agenda may be amended due to concerns about road conditions after 5 p.m. Any items on the agenda that are not heard will be added to a workshop and regular meeting on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
