September is Attendance Awareness Month! 🌟 Every school day matters. Research shows that as early as kindergarten, poor attendance is linked to lower achievement in reading and math. In fact, one missed day can equal 2.5 days lost in math and 1.5 days lost in reading. Let’s keep encouraging our students to show up, build strong habits, and succeed! #WeArePCPS #teampowhatan

Back-to-school means back to Chromebooks! 💻 Our IT team worked hard in the first weeks of school to assign thousands of devices across the division. A big thank-you also goes to the many school staff members who supported the process. The collaboration across schools and departments was outstanding. #WeArePCPS #teampowhatan

✨ Powhatan Elementary families kicked off the school year with a PTO Fun Run held the Friday before school started. Families came together to meet new principal Dr. Jason Gill and enjoy time together before the first day of school on Aug. 18. It was such a fun way to celebrate the start of a new year, connect as a community, and get those back-to-school vibes rolling. 🧡#WeArePCPS #TeamPowhatan

The learning didn’t stop after the first session of the PCPS emPOWer 2025 Conference mentioned in today's earlier post. Our staff dove into three more rounds of meaningful, energizing professional development throughout the day. 💡🧠✨
We wrapped up the day with a final group gathering, where the annual Spirit Stick competition went home with Pocahontas Elementary School. Congratulations! 🎉👏
And of course, what’s a full day of learning without lunch? Thank you to the vendors who showed up with giveaways, goodies, and support for our amazing staff. 💼🍽️ 🧡🖤
From start to finish, emPOWer 2025 reminded us of the strength, heart, and talent across PCPS. Let’s carry this momentum into an awesome year ahead! 🚀📚

What better way to launch the 2025-2026 school year for our staff members than with the PCPS emPOWer 2025 Conference? 🙌✨
We started Monday at Powhatan Middle School reconnecting over breakfast and registration—full of hugs, high-fives, and smiles from seeing familiar faces again. 🧡🖤 A huge thank you to all of the staff who donated brick-style ramen to Backpacks of Love to help fight childhood hunger.
The energy was electric in our opening session, where we were lucky to hear inspiring words from our leader, Superintendent Beth Teigen, and Avanti Yamamoto, the 2025 Virginia Teacher of the Year. Ms. Yamamoto’s message set the perfect tone for a day dedicated to growth, connection, and purpose. 💬🔥
From there, staff jumped right into our first round of professional learning sessions—led by our amazing educators and special guests.
We captured a lot of great moments, and this is just a glimpse. Check the school division’s Facebook page for more snapshots, and we’ll bring you more photos from the conference here on our next post! 👀📷
