Twinsies! It can be fun when co-workers are on the same wavelength and inadvertently show up to work dressed the same. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

The PCPS elementary schools' fall festivals are about to start! We hope everyone has a safe and joyful night. We would love you to snap a photo in front of one of your school's cool decorations, share it here, and tell us your kids' favorite part of the night. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Oct. 16-20, 2023 is National School Bus Safety Week, and we want to give a huge thank you to the men and women who make it possible to transport our kids to and from school, field trips and extracurricular activities. We are sharing photos of many of the awesome PCPS Transportation employees who keep us rolling forward, including School Bus Drivers, Car Drivers, Bus Aides, Mechanics, Dispatchers, and our Transportation Office Staff. Thank you for all you do! #wearepcps #teampowhatan #schoolbussafety

Powhatan County Public Schools is recognizing Bullying Prevention Week from Oct. 16-20. We are asking our students to “pledge to support others that have been hurt or harmed and treat others with kindness.” #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Zachary Durrbeck has chosen to build tab collection boxes for his Eagle Scout project. Pop-top tab collections are an easy way to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond. We are hopeful having collection boxes throughout the community will encourage more participation. He presented the school principals with the boxes for their school at the Oct. 10 school board meeting, where school board members thanked him for his thoughtful gesture. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Join us for Unity Day! PCPS will celebrate Unity Day by wearing ORANGE
for KINDNESS on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023.

Mrs. Lewis’ fifth grade class at Powhatan Elementary focused a recent English lesson on sequencing, or order of events. Students were given pieces of a story on several sheets of paper and had to read through and organize them in an order that made sense. #wearepcps #teampowhatan #elevateeducatorsva

School bus transportation plays a critical role in the education of our nation's students, and is the direct link between your homes and the classroom. More than 25 million children ride the yellow bus every school day, and National School Bus Safety Week serves as a reminder for students, parents, teachers, and the community to keep school bus safety in the forefront. Here are tips to keep our children safe at the bus stop. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Mrs. Beach took her fourth grade class at Powhatan Elementary School into the courtyard to review weather tools. The class looked at the anemometer, barometer, thermometer, and rain gauge. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Through the action of a committed group of youth with disabilities, the General Assembly officially recognized October as Disability History and Awareness Month (DHAM). The youth also developed this credo: Disability history education and awareness will promote positive attitudes in schools creating a culture of mutual respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for all.
This month highlights the success that Virginians with disabilities have had reducing barriers they have faced to employment, healthcare, education and community living, while helping raise awareness of the ongoing contributions and achievements that they bring to the Commonwealth throughout the year.

Students and families at Powhatan High School came together on Oct. 4 to learn more about the community-based internships that students will be participating in during the 2023-2024 school year. Look for them around town at: Powhatan County Public Library, Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA, Sodexo, Powhatan State Park, Rise and Grind, Backpacks of Love, and Herff Jones. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Please share info about Powhatan fall festivals, trail walks, haunted houses, trunk or treats, and other kid-friendly autumn/Halloween events for PCPS families. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

R is for Robots! When the letter of the day for the kindergarten classes at Powhatan Elementary was R, the students got a special treat with a visit and demonstration from the Richmond Police Department’s Bomb Squad. The technicians used age appropriate language to show the kids how they operate the bomb robot but also let the students tour the heavy response vehicle and see their own Mrs. Hall don a bomb suit. Some of the classes also made their own robots using various materials later that day. #wearepcps #teampowhatan #elevateeducatorsva

PCPS is looking for community members who are interested in helping us create our next Six-Year Technology Plan. The technology plan will guide us as we purchase, integrate, and support technology over the next six years. The plan provides a roadmap not just for how our technology will support classroom instruction, but also how we can use technology to support internet safety, business operations, and network security. The first meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 17.
If you would like to have a voice in these decisions by joining our committee, please contact Jeff Durrett, Director of Technology, at jdurrett@powhatan.k12.va.us.

Powhatan Elementary School loved inviting families into the school for Family PE Week last week. Parents or guardians got the chance to go through a typical PE class, such as these adults did with the third graders. Coach Daniels said, “It helps them see what their kids are doing so they are seeing their kids be active. We are showing them different activities their kids can do at home so they are not just watching TV.” #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Today is National Instructional Coach Day, when we honor the men and women who work with teachers to improve the quality of their lessons and the quality of students' education. These instructional coaches, some of whom are shown here, serve as mentors and role models, helping teachers stay fresh and use the latest techniques and technologies in their classrooms. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Powhatan County Public Schools has a great relationship with the Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA. Each year, we work together to make sure all of our second graders get a chance to learn how to swim by visiting the pool for five lessons. Recently, Powhatan Elementary School’s second graders completed their swimming program. Mrs. Cheatham’s class (group shot) had just finished their lesson. Mrs. Simon’s students were eager to learn about treading water, rolling over on their back to call for help, and how to help someone who is in trouble in the water from a safe vantage point. Thanks to instructor Jessie Hevener and her helpers for helping our kids feel comfortable in the pool. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Congratulations to all of the boys and girls recognized by Powhatan Elementary as the Students of the Month for their classes. We are so proud of you! #wearepcps #teampowhatan
