📚✨ Ms. Morin's 4th grade class at Pocahontas Elementary took math on the move by exploring math stories in the hallways earlier this semester! They worked on solving real-world problems, connecting math to stories they can relate to. This hands-on approach helps make math more meaningful and supports our students in becoming lifelong mathematicians! 🧮💡 #wearepcps #teampowhatan

🌵💖 At Flat Rock Elementary, Mrs. Dewey's second graders recently focused on learning about kindness and creativity in the library! 📚 They read "Nobody Hugs a Cactus" by Carter Goodrich and made their own heart-themed cacti. 💚🧡 One student shared a thoughtful insight: “You don’t hug them in real life. Not because you don’t like them, but they are prickly.” What a perfect way to remind us that kindness comes in all forms, even when things feel a little prickly! 🌵 #wearepcps #teampowhatan

In February, Carter Estep, Jonah Davidson, and Parker Smith represented Powhatan High School at the SkillsUSA District 2 Welding Fabrication contest held at the Advanced Career Education Center at Virginia Randolph. 🔥💪 They worked hard, showed off their skills, and earned an impressive second place! 🥈 Their performance earned them a spot competing at the state level in April. A huge thank you to Mr. Fields for being an amazing instructor who supports our Career and Workforce Development program. 👏#wearepcps #teampowhatan

Mr. Hall’s students at Powhatan High School got creative with their pitches when they participated in an Industrial Revolution Shark Tank activity! 🦈 They worked in teams to research and pitch “innovative ideas” from the past—like steel skyscrapers and the transcontinental railroad—just as if they were happening in real-time. One of the funniest moments? A team throwing shade at the telegraph while pitching their own invention – a candlestick telephone! 😆 It was a fun way to bring history to life with a little bit of drama! 💡📚 #wearepcps #teampowhatan

While the festivities were a little delayed, Ms. Amy and Ms. Regina’s VPI-3 class at Flat Rock Elementary recently had a blast with their late Valentine’s celebrations! 💖 During choice time, the kids got to pick fun, hands-on activities that helped build fine motor skills and encouraged some creative dramatic play. They also shared the heartfelt cards they made for their fellow classmates. It’s always great to see our little ones exploring, learning, and having fun! ✨ #wearepcps #teampowhatan

In February, our 8th graders at Powhatan Middle School worked through writing stations that brought the Harlem Renaissance to life. Students explored Langston Hughes' powerful poem "The Weary Blues" and learned about Harlem's rich history through the article "Welcome to Harlem" from Junior Scholastic. After reading and answering some thought-provoking questions, they wrote their own essays to reflect on it all. So proud of their hard work! ✍️ #wearepcps #teampowhatan

This winter, the preschool classes at Powhatan Elementary learned all about “Everyday Helpers” and had the chance to meet some amazing community heroes! 🙌 A huge thank you to: 🚑 Mrs. Sloan, PES school nurse; 📦 Mrs. Yeatts, a parent and mail carrier; 👮 Deputy Tovar, PES school resource officer; and 🚒 Mr. Ruecroft, a local firefighter. We’re so grateful to these everyday heroes for taking the time to visit and teach the VPI students about the important work they do in our community. Thank you for making learning so fun and inspiring! #wearepcps #teampowhatan

During Black History Month, Ms. Proffitt's kindergarten class learned about the incredible legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by reading “Martin’s Big Words” by Doreen Rappaport. 📚✨ Then the students got creative with a directed drawing of Dr. King and brought it to life with vibrant watercolor paintings! 🎨 🧡 They even added words that describe Dr. King’s impact and character—talk about a meaningful project! 🖋️ #wearepcps #teampowhatan
