Important Morning Drop-Off Reminders

  • For the safety of our students and staff during the morning drop off process, please review and follow the following procedures:

    • Please do not park in the School Resource Officers' parking spot directly in front of the school.

    • Please do not drop students off in the parking lot. Students should only exit vehicles from the drop off line directly in front of the school. However, you are welcome to park and walk your child to the front door if you prefer. 

    • Please heed the STOP/SLOW sign at all times.

  • Thank you for the part you play in keeping our FRES family safe.

Powhatan Strong: Family Connection Series

  • The PCPS Student Services Department is partnering with Goochland Powhatan Community Services to host an in-person course on Suicide Prevention along with information on how to promote safe care of lethal means, including firearms and medications. The course will teach you to recognize common causes of suicidal behavior and warning signs of suicide, as well as how to get help for someone in crisis. You will learn how to appropriately Question, Persuade, and Refer someone who may be suicidal. There will be information shared regarding medication lock boxes/pouches, and locking devices for guns, and they will also be available for free to take home and put to use.   • Please join the PCPS Student Services Department for our April Coffee Chat on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 5-6 PM. This month, Erin Woodson, PCPS Health and PE Lead, will host our session on Student Nutrition.

Announcements and Additional Information

  • At the December 11, 2025 School Board meeting, the Board approved changing April 6, 2026, from a designated snow make-up day to an instructional day for students and staff. This change was made in response to the four instructional days already missed due to snow.

  • Our neighbor across Batterson asks that if  you are approaching Flat Rock coming eastbound, please do not use her driveway to turn around. 

  • Helping Hands Award: Do you know a Powhatan County Public Schools employee who is Inspiring, Empowering, or Innovating? We want to hear from you. Tell us about any staff member who is making a difference in the lives of our children by inspiring, empowering or innovating. CLICK HERE to nominate someone! We welcome suggestions from students, families, co-workers or community members.

  • Parent Drop-off/Pick-up:

    • Please do not exit your car in the line-if your child needs help to buckle once they’re in the car, please pull around and park to buckle them

    • Do not pass cars in the line

    • Children only exit directly in front of the building

  • For any transportation changes, please email FRES Parent Pick Up and your child’s teacher. Please be patient as arrival and dismissal takes a little longer the first few days.

Volunteer With Us!

  • The Lunch Buddies Mentoring Program has been in place in Powhatan County Public Schools for over 10 years. The goal of the program is to help foster strong relationships among our students and the positive adult role models in the community. Whether at any of our 3 elementary schools or our middle school, you would meet with a student once a week and ultimately act as another advocate for them. It can be anything from academic support to conversation, playing games, making crafts, and so much more. The program is planned to begin the first week of October and will last until mid-May, when SOL testing begins in our upper grade levels. 

    • If you are interested in participating as a mentor for the Lunch Buddies Program, we would be happy to have you! Please reach out to lunchbuddies@powhatan.k12.va.us for any questions.   If you are interested in applying, please visit this page to apply.
