English & Language Arts

The goal of the Powhatan County Public Schools English/language arts program is to create literate citizens who are prepared for the demands of college and careers.  This is done through a balanced literacy approach in which students interact with a variety of complex texts, both fiction and non-fiction.  Students have an opportunity to develop their skills by reading, writing, thinking, listening, and speaking daily while also embracing various technologies that enhance their learning experience.

What Should I Do if I Suspect My Child May Have Dyslexia?

Email or call your childโ€™s teacher and/or the school counselor or principal and share your suspicions.

Your school will contact you to schedule a Child Find meeting within 10 days. At this meeting the team, which includes the parent(s), will decide whether or not to evaluate to look for a learning disability.
