Meet representatives from Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, CodeRVA High School, and the Powhatan HS/Reynolds Community College Advanced College Academy.
Learn about programs, applications, and opportunities beyond the traditional high school path. Applications are limited to current 8th graders enrolled in Algebra 1, but the information night is open to students in grades 5–8 and their families. *
Applications open: Oct. 1 on the PCPS website
Application deadline: Dec. 1
* Private and homeschool families seeking applications will need to schedule an appointment with Ms. Antone to come to Powhatan Middle School and provide proof of residency for their student’s application to be verified and accepted.

What better way to launch the 2025-2026 school year for our staff members than with the PCPS emPOWer 2025 Conference? 🙌✨
We started Monday at Powhatan Middle School reconnecting over breakfast and registration—full of hugs, high-fives, and smiles from seeing familiar faces again. 🧡🖤 A huge thank you to all of the staff who donated brick-style ramen to Backpacks of Love to help fight childhood hunger.
The energy was electric in our opening session, where we were lucky to hear inspiring words from our leader, Superintendent Beth Teigen, and Avanti Yamamoto, the 2025 Virginia Teacher of the Year. Ms. Yamamoto’s message set the perfect tone for a day dedicated to growth, connection, and purpose. 💬🔥
From there, staff jumped right into our first round of professional learning sessions—led by our amazing educators and special guests.
We captured a lot of great moments, and this is just a glimpse. Check the school division’s Facebook page for more snapshots, and we’ll bring you more photos from the conference here on our next post! 👀📷

Summer camp season officially got underway last week with the Youth Cheer Camp! 📣🧡 Led by our amazing PHS Cheerleading Team and coaches, campers spent the week learning the basics of cheerleading: motions, jumps, cheers, dance, and even stunts! School may be out, but the work doesn’t stop at Powhatan County Public Schools! ☀️📚 While students and teachers enjoy a well-earned summer break, our school leaders and Central Office staff are hard at work planning for the next school year. Throughout the summer, each school holds a State of the School event to reflect on the past year and plan for an even better 2025–2026. Many classroom teachers also volunteer their time to do this important work. Powhatan Middle School kicked things off right away, diving into planning sessions as soon as the school year ended—leading the way for the rest of our schools. 💪 These summer efforts directly support our Strategic Plan goals, especially our focus on Academic Success. By reviewing what worked—and what can be improved—we’re laying the foundation for stronger instruction, more student growth, and continued excellence across all schools.
