What is a student representative?
Student representatives provide a direct link between the school board and students. They help the board better understand students’ perspectives and concerns while providing an opportunity for students to be involved in governance and leadership.
Each year, a student from the junior class will be chosen to serve as a deputy student representative before moving up to the position of student representative in their senior year.
What does the school board do?
The Powhatan County School Board consists of five, elected, voting members. They represent the community, guides policies, and provide oversight to Powhatan County Public Schools.
The school board wants to ensure all voices are heard, including the voices of the students. In policy BBBB and regulation BBBB-R it spells out the application and selection process.
What are the qualifications?
be a Powhatan County resident
attend Powhatan High School
be a member of the junior class
have a 3.0 GPA or higher
complete and submit an application
commit to attending the school board meetings

complete the application, having you parent or legal guardian sign and obtain one teacher recommendation.
return your completed application to Jessica Jones @PHS by November 10, 2026 @ noon.
be available for an interview on November 17, 2026.
