We welcome parents to join their children for lunch starting September 14th. Here is a Parent Lunch Sign Up that can always be found in the helpful links for parents section of the weekly email.

Please leave “squishy” toys at home. They can be a distraction and can explode, creating a concern when we are unsure of the safety of the contents.

October is Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bullying Prevention Month and our month to Celebrate Respect at Pocahontas Elementary. Each week, you will see a home & school connection message related to Bullying Awareness & Prevention. Powhatan is also kicking off a Powhatan is for Kindness Campaign.
Bullying Prevention Information. Understanding What Bullying Is (The 3 core components). Bullying is distinct from general peer disagreements or rude behavior. For an action to be defined as bullying, look for three specific criteria:

Intentional Harm: The behavior is aggressive and intended to hurt, intimidate, or humiliate.
Repeated Over Time: It happens repeatedly, or there is a strong likelihood it will happen again.
Imbalance of Power: The aggressor uses a real or perceived advantage (such as size, age, etc.) to control or hurt the target.

Action Step: If your child comes to you upset, use these 3 components to help determine whether they are experiencing normal peer conflict or bullying behavior.

Powhatan is for Kindness. During the 26-27 school year, Powhatan County Public Schools is launching a project aimed at spreading kindness across the county. Click here for our Parent Handout. At Pocahontas Elementary, a student in each class will be recognized monthly for kindness and will receive a book token to visit the book vending machine.
