2015-2016 

Develop and begin to utilize STEM lead teachers, one at each school

Build Infrastructure
  • Permanent Steering Committee

Foster Relationships with Community
  • Community partners: parks, library, 4-H,etc.
  • Local and regional business partners
  • Virginia STEM Network Region 1 Hub

Financial requirements
  • STEM lead teacher stipend at each school
  • Curriculum writing stipends
  • Support students at STEM competitions
  • Fund teachers to attend STEM conferences
2016-2017

Train and support teachers
  • Nurture early adopters to begin to build    capacity
  • Continue to develop curriculum 
Develop a STEM Community
  • Cross-curricular STEM showcases including:
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE)
  • Computer programming
  • The arts
  • Health and PE

Increase student participation in STEM extra-curricular activities, clubs, after school programs, internships

  • STEM lead teacher stipend at each school 
  • Two STEM coaches
  • Curriculum writing stipends
  • Support student attendance at STEM competitions
  • Fund teachers to attend STEM conferences
2017-2018

Train and support teachers
        Utilize STEM coaches, lead teachers and         early adopters to maximize capacity

Expand curriculum and experiences for students
  • Secure more internship and mentorship opportunities
  • Create additional courses according to student interest, teacher availability and market demand 
  • There should be a palpable “STEM feel” in each school
  • Problem/project-based learning
  • Cross-curricular collaboration 
  • Student-centered classrooms with teachers as facilitators

  • Pending grant awards, decrease in financial support needed to fund student participation in competitions
