STEM Plan

Our Vision:

A place where a "STEM State of Mind”
is an integral part of the school and community culture.


Goal 1: All teachers will possess the skills to effectively integrate STEM lessons into the classroom.
Strategies:
  1. Train all teachers how to incorporate STEM strategies into their lessons/courses: Provide training before implementation. Offer follow-up training after implementation. Provide time for teachers to develop lessons related to training which can be shared in eBook. 
  2. Provide opportunities for teachers to make peer observations that support the incorporation of STEM strategies into lessons. 
  3. Provide on-site expertise to assist with lesson creation and to model lessons. 
  4. *Provide funding for STEM lead teachers to attend a variety of STEM conferences to learn new strategies, which in turn, will be shared with staff. 

Goal 2: Our school division will have a clearly defined and communicated k-12 STEM program that supports opportunities for
interaction among stakeholders.

Strategies:
  1. Create a common STEM vocabulary to be used in all communications. 
  2. Develop a “road map” showing horizontal and vertical alignment of STEM opportunities for students. 
  3. Develop a “road map” showing horizontal and vertical alignment of STEM curriculum. 
  4. Promote and communicate STEM accomplishments and events to schools and community through a web site. 
  5. Expose community to real-world STEM applications and career opportunities by scheduling school and division-wide STEM events throughout the school-year. 
  6. Develop STEM activities that bring different grade levels of students together. 
  7. Create a high school schedule that allows students to take both academic and CTE courses. 

Goal 3: Our students will experience a variety of STEM-based lessons, courses, and program offerings every year.
Strategies:
  1. Increase the integration of STEM lessons and events into the k-5 school day. 
  2. Integrate STEM career field counseling into k-8. 
  3. Offer more STEM courses during the school day at the high school: 
    1. computer programming 
    2. mechatronics 
    3. senior capstone project 
  4. Increase the number of extra-curricular STEM activities: 
    1. *Science Olympiad 
    2. *FIRST Robotics 
    3. Coding club 
    4. Student internships 
    5. *Expansion Future Problem Solving program to all students 

Goal 4: Our school division will provide an infrastructure that supports STEM program sustainability.
Strategies:
  1. Develop Community Partnerships that offer support (financial, field trip, student internships) to our schools. 
  2. *Provide 11 month contracts to some teachers for the purpose of further developing STEM courses and student opportunities OR create two full-time STEM coach positions to fulfill this role. 
  3. Reinstate STEM leads at each school. 
  4. Secure designated space within each school for STEM classes or STEM club. 
  5. *Provide funds to support student attendance at STEM events and competitions ( including buses, drivers, registrations, seed money for start-up, etc. 
  6. *Provide funding for STEM lead teachers to attend a variety of STEM conferences to learn new strategies, which in turn, will be shared with staff.
