Closures

  • The following retailers will be CLOSED on EASTER, Sunday, April 12: Aldi, Costco, Publix, Sam's Club, Target, Trader Joe's
  • ALL Virginia DMV customer service centers (linked here) are CLOSED until at least April 23, and all DMV 2 Go and DMV Connect services (linked here) are postponed. Driver’s licenses and identification cards set to expire between March 15 and May 15 are extended 60 days from the original date of expiration. This includes credentials for individuals aged 75 and older who are typically required to make an in-person visit to renew. Vehicle registrations that expire in March and April are extended for 60 days. Virginians eligible to renew their licenses, identification cards, or vehicle registration online are encouraged to take advantage of those services. Mail-in options are also available for a number of transactions, such as vehicle registration, original title transactions, and driver's license renewal, if mailed a notice. If in-person service is needed, these customers will have an additional 60 days to renew credentials without a late fee.
  • Effective Tuesday, March 17, ALL local social security offices (https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/) are CLOSED to the public for in-person service! However, local offices will focus on specific critical workloads ONLY and will direct the public to access www.socialsecurity.gov for business that can be conducted online. To contact the local office servicing Powhatan via telephone dial, 1-877-773-7231. Or contact the national number at 1-800-772-1213 if you had a previously scheduled appointment or need other assistance.
  • The Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA and ALL Greater Richmond YMCA locations are CLOSED until further notice
  • Powhatan Health Dept. is OPEN! However, any calls related to COVID-19 should be made to 804-717-6440
  • ALL Powhatan County public offices are OPEN but with LIMITED services. Call offices to verify what is available as some transactions can be completed over the phone
  • Powhatan County Public Library is CLOSED through March 28th. Guest wifi is accessible 24/7 as well as eResources

Resources

  • Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.
  • Powhatan County is providing free, 24/7 WiFi access to the public at several locations. The network Powhatan_guest is accessible in the parking lots of the Powhatan County Library (2270 Mann Rd), Administration Building (3834 Old Buckingham Rd) and Village Building (3910 Old Buckingham Rd). It is also available from the Courthouse (3880 Old Buckingham Rd), but parking near the building is limited

Food Access

  • Sheetz Kidz Meal Bagz. The Sheetz at 4201 Anderson Hwy (next to the Post Office) is offering children a free turkey sandwich lunch while supplies last. Families should ask an employee how to register.
  • Text FOOD or COMIDA to 877877 for information on food access sites near you. 
  • Powhatan County Ride Assist Services (link to the Facebook group here). Seniors can call 804-698-0438 to have groceries delivered to their door
  • Feeding Powhatan is offering pre-packed breakfast & lunches on Wednesdays from 1 pm - 5 pm. First-time registrants should register through the Google form linked here, be sure to bring picture ID & 1 paystub or 2019 tax document.  Feeding Powhatan is located at 2408 New Dorset Cir. 804-303-6431.     Following initial registration check their Facebook page to check-in for your items each week. Checking in online ensures that your items are ready to go when you come to the food pantry.   
  • Powhatan Food Pantry - OPEN Tues., Thurs., Fri., Sat., 10 am-12 pm (Thursdays 5 pm-7 pm). 2500 Batterson Rd. 804-372-9526
    • This pantry receives food through the Central VA FoodBank & has onsite registration that also requires income reporting

Grocery/Retail Information

  • Target ALL stores close at 9pm. EACH Wednesday the 1st hour is for “vulnerable guest” (elderly shoppers & those with underlying health concerns)
  • Kohl's stores nationwide will close at 7:00 PM March 19 through at least April 1. Online ordering is still available. Curbside order pick-up is now offered - more information is linked here.
  • Dollar General 1st hour for senior shoppers ONLY & stores closing 1 hour early
  • Walmart ALL stores are now open 7 am - 8:30 pm. From March 24 through April 28, Walmart stores will host an hour-long senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers 60 and older, which will start one hour before stores open.
  • Kroger 7am - 10pm
  • Publix ALL stores close at 8pm
  • ALDI - Temporary closures & limited hours (varies by location)
