Bullying Prevention

Powhatan County Schools has implemented the Olweus (pronounced Ol-VEY-us) bullying prevention program in grades K-8. This program is the best-known bullying prevention program available today, with over thirty-five years of research and successful implementation around the world. This is a school wide program that has been proven to prevent or reduce bullying throughout a school setting. The Powhatan County School Board has adopted bullying prevention policies for all grade levels.

Bullying includes 3 major components:

  • Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted negative actions.
  • Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time
  • Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength

Bullying is not:

  • A conflict between equals, ordinary teasing, horseplay, or arguments.
